Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum, so I appreciate any help offered.

I have a 2000 Hyundai accent 4 door 1.6 L (I think). It's been a great car considering how much my wife has beaten it up over the years. It has 135K miles. Recently I started having trouble filling the gas tank, and my big theory is that the evap cannister/charcoal cannister is shot. Now there is a drag on the engine- especially over 20 mph. And the check oil light comes on periodically even though there is plenty of oil in it. I was told the catalytic converter needs to be changed.

My question: is the cannister problem effecting the catalytic converter? Does the drag on the engine sound like the CC? My mechanic gave me a figure of about $1000 with labor to replace it. With the number of miles I'm wondering if it's worth replaceing the catalytic converter. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
