I noticed that Android Auto doesn't take up the whole 10" screen (the Bose technology package or Limited screen). I am guessing this is a limitation of Android Auto but I wanted to ask in case there is a Hyundai setting. I'm not even sure what would be displayed in the right third of the screen. Currently, it's the Android Auto logo and my phone's name.

I don't know if this is an issue on the 8" screen.

Thanks!

I was wondering about this too, after seeing the shape of that screen. I wonder if the Palisade has the same behavior because i think it has a similar screen.

I don't use Android Auto, but I do own a Palisade and I know that this issue is also present on it, because it has been widely reported on all the Palisade forums. I suggest you all report it to Hyundai - if they get enough comments, hopefully they'll look into it

I got it to use that extra space. Obviously, I've been through the settings multiple times since I got the car but I looked again today. In the DEVICE CONNECTIONS SETTINGS, there is a USE SPLIT SCREEN option available for both Android Auto and CarPlay. It's the only option other than turning Android Auto on/off.

I turned it on and it put a choice of the 5 (?) widgets you can use like weather, time, climate control, Hyundai map (not Android Auto), and I think one other. You scroll up/down with your finger to change them.

This is using the climate control widget. It's something. I wish it used the Android Auto notifications. That would be much more useful. CAVEAT - I haven't gone back to my car to see if it remembers this setting. I'll report back if it doesn't.

Where did you find the climate control panel? I don't see it under widgets. Is it part of Android Auto?

It is not part of Android Auto. Your phone doesn't collect that information. Unfortunately, nothing in that side panel is drawn from Android Auto as far as I can tell. It's a Hyundai space.

I'm not near my car now but I have a setting that lets me choose which widgets are active by checking them off. On my car, they are all checked. My guess is that your climate control widget isn't checked so it's not showing up. I can't remember the location of the setting off hand but when I head home, I can take a look.

Ah but it’s not using Android auto though, which I think is what people want.

I assume you’re aware that you can do this outside of Android auto as well? You just slide in from the right and it brings up that screen that takes 1/3 of the space. The rest gets resized to use 2/3. It works on the radio screen, the built-in nav screen... etc. At least it does on the Palisade.

However, I wasn’t aware that you could do this when using CarPlay (we’re an Apple household). I’ll have to see if that option also exists on the Palisade, and if you can slide that side panel on or off at will.

Exactly. I assume that it would take some cooperation between Google and Hyundai so I won't hold my breath. I have been putting the map there. I don't like how it's mainly brown. Odd color choice but I guess it goes with one of the other interior color combinations.

Please, don't ever assume. At least for the next 6 months. I keep discovering things. It's so complex. I noticed that slideout more today but thanks for giving me the blanket coverage of the feature. Now I know it is consistent.

It's a Hyundai problem. Looks like the Palisade and Telluride suffer from a lack of AA widescreen support as well so it's the same issue across all of their new infotainment systems.

Found a post on Reddit that explains the issue more in-depth:

"Unlike how they setup CarPlay, they limited the space given to AA as a normal (non-wide) screen. AA thinks that it only has the space to fit beside the AA logo placeholder. The cars where is did work once widescreen support rolled out did so becuse the placeholder was not coded to be permanent but rather only be there is the feed coming in did not occupy the whole screen."

I doubt that Hyundai/Kia will do anything about it unless enough Android users contact them. Can't post links being a new user but you can find the page on their websites

I sent a message through the My Hyundai portal. I know it's not likely to do much on its own but, like Erigion said, if enough people complain...

When you said you can't post links but you can find "the page on their websites" --- what page were you referring to? Did you mean Reddit?

On Hyundai's website there's a Contact Us page. I would have posted a direct link but new members on this forum can't post links

Got it. I don't know what the threshold is for new members to post.

My guess is that complaints would get the most traction coming through the MyHuyandai website. It means it is coming from a verified owner. Although - let's see what they say to me. It will probably be some version of "thank you, we've forwarded this to the blah-blah team."

Oh jeez, Hyundai customer service just vomited all sorts of information in response to my clear request that they fix Android Auto so it uses the whole screen like Apple CarPlay. I didn't ask for help, just that they look into the programming. I chose something like "vehicle" in the dropdown menu to categorize the message, not Blue Link.

Here you go...

  1. Have you tried to force the video resolution in the developer options of Android Auto?
I have not. I might. Although this does strike me as an issue with Hyundai. I left developer options off on my latest phone. (not sure why, ha!)
