I had a long journey in the car today (2022 Kona petrol Hybrid), and heard/felt a knocking a couple of times. Upon inspection underneath the car this is hanging down - what is this, and how serious is it/could be?! The car drove fine and no warning lights came on

Hard to tell but looks like it probably has something to do with exhaust/emissions. I imagine you'll get a warning light and code soon if you keep driving the car.
You probably want to secure that piece to the undercarriage until you can get the car in for service.

It looks like an EGT sensor (Exhaust Gas Temperature) for the particulate filter. You should have that fixed sooner rather than later. The filter wont regenerate (clean itself) if the ECU is getting incorrect EGT inputs.

I didn't know Hyundai were fitting them to petrol cars. There are only a few cars sold here and their all euro ones because of the high sulphur in our fuels. Please post back the outcome.

They need to fit them if they want to sell cars fitted with GDi engines. That's the case up here in Europe anyway.
