Wife currently owns a 2002 GLS AWD and looking to get a new vehicle. The local Hyundai dealer has both 2009 and 2010 Santa Fe's in stock. If i can get a really good deal on a 2009, i may go that route. One big question I have...what are the biggest differences between the 2009 and 2010? I am mainly looking for visual and powertrain differences. If you parked a 2009 and 2010 next to each other, is there any difference in looks? Any positives or negatives between the V6 powertrain in 2009 vs 2010?

If we go with 2010 it will be a GLS AWD and the 2009 would be Limited AWD.

I am not sure whether anyone can give you an accurate reply. Looks are always personal choices. Of course 2010s are more efficient on gas but if you can get a great deal on a 2009 it will compensate for that. I am not an expert on cars but i went for an 2009 based on the deal, exhaust, grill looks etc. I dont put too many kilometres on my vehicle anyway.

I suggest you read through this entire thread before asking any comparison questions between the two years. http://www.hyundai-forums.com/t35590-2010-...ew-facelift.htm

I prefer the 07/09 because I like the dual exhaust and do not like the 2010 grill. As far as bodies are concerned. They are identical with the exception of the front clip and rear bumper. The 2010 is just a mild make over. The 2011 will be the big change. The new 3.5 engine and the 6 speed, Hyundai sourced 6 speed auto tranny have not been time tested, which is another concern.

2010..different front and rear bumper covers as well as lights in the rear are altezza stlye...6 speed transmission with a 3.5 liter v6 available. Bluetooth is a standard feature, and the interior cloth seats are different as well

2009...3.3 and 2.7 motors with a five speed transmission same interior design as the 2008 and 2007.

you should really go to the dealership and look at the vehicles side by side....there is a few differences I'm missing...

Both santa fe's are great with the 2010 being a bigger motor with great gas mileage...

good luck and happy hyundai..!!!

The 2010 US model GLS ONLY comes in the 4 and that would be very taxing on an AWD model, it's almost 4,000 lbs. The 2009 Limited is a much more substantial vehicle. There is no comparison. It's like comparing a Yugo to a Caddy. You really should be comparing apples with apples, a 2010 Limited 6 to a 2009 Limited. The 2010 has more power, a six speed tranny, nicer lights, uglier rims and uglier grill.

I can't comment on the 2009 GLS; however my girlfriend just traded her 2007 GLS 3.3 V6 in for the 2010 3.5 V6 Sport AWD - and believe me there is a BIG difference in the 3.5 to the 3.3 ... It's a much more obvious power delivery and the suspension is alot firmer, with far better road holding This is confirmed by my purchase 3 weeks ago of a 2007 GLS AWD 3.3. The difference is night and day. I may be wrong and am writing this without comparing the 2009, however i understand the 3.5 V6 is only available on the 2010 range. It seems to be a tighter vehicle all round so i'd go with the 2010 if it were me... ;)

He is looking at a 2009 Limited, not a GLS.

As far as I know, the suspension is the same in the 2010 as it is in the 2007/2009 so handling and firmness should not be any different.

All the Santa Fes, 2007/2010 are built on the same unibody chassis so one is no tighter than the other.

The 2009 Limited will have more bells and whistles than the 2010 GLS.

What little MPG that is gained with a 2010 will take years to make up for, considering the thousands that can be saved by purchasign a 2009. And..........the extra options can never be made up for, by purchasing the 2010 GLS.

The 2.7 is considerably underpowered compared to the 3.3 which, of course, is standard on the 2009 Limited.

And last but not least, and this is where my opinion comes in; the grill and rear end with its single, lonely, puny little tail pipe, are butt ugly. The 2010 Santa Fe no longer looks sporty, and all so that Hyundai could save a few bucks.

The latter is my opinion, the formers are fact.

Go to this link.

Plug in a 2009 AWD Limited and a 2010 AWD GLS. Now do the comparison.

You will be absolutely amazed at what you get on the Limited as standard equipment, which isn't even available on the GLS.

The 2009 is a win, win situation for you.

Apparently there is a $3500 factory rebate on the 2010s right now, and most dealers will easily knock off another $1200-$1800 depending on model, so I'm not sure there is much to be saved on an '09. Considering that the '09 will soon be two years old, and lacks the upgraded V6/6-speed combination, I'd lean towards the 2010. Assuming I could get over the new grille, boy-racer tail lights and minivanish lack of dual exhausts

PS: Some comments in this thread about the GLS apply to U.S. models only. In Canada the GLS is very well-equipped and (I believe) the most popular model.

The more I see of 2010's, the better I like them. The grill looks good. Miss the phony dual exhausts? Not me.

2010 is the way to go unless thers' a HUGE price advantage to the 2009.

Don,

I believe the GLS in the States only has a 2.7 engine. A bad choice for an AWD vehicle.

Where do you see that $3500 rebate?? I am looking to purchase, but according to the Hyundai USA website the 2010 Santa Fe offer in for my zip code is:

* $1,000 customer cash back (4/1/2010 - 4/30/2010)
* Special APR Financing. As low as 3.9% APR for 60 mos, 4.9% for 72 mos PLUS $1,500 Bonus Cash (4/1/2010 - 4/30/2010)

Sure would enjoy an extra $2500 off... :)

You mean 2.4 ?? Talking about 2010's, right?
Thanks for correcting me.

I just now noticed that he got a 2010 Limited and threw away the idea of a 2010 GLS.

Definitely a good decision getting all the goodies that come with the Limited.

Good for you! You got new vehicle (not a year depreciated according to insurance) new styling, and the nicer trim package (Limited over GLS). As for me, I would have taken the '09 Limited over the '10 GLS any day, but Limited for Limited, I like the choice you made!

Enjoy!
