I replaced the Alternator on my girlfriends 04 elantra, all the lights and guages went crazy, when I put my meter on it it wasnt charging. I replaced the alternator and battery with a unit from Oreillys, and it seems to be charging fine now 13.9 volts. the light on the dash wont go off now. Car seems to run fine and batteruy is charged completly.
Does it need resetting? Could the new alternator be bad? please help.

Thats why they have lifetime warranty, keep replacing them til you get 1 that works,,, been there wife car when we was dating till she called her dad and had him grab 1 off shelf at dealer he worked at... problem solved..

Make sure the plug is installed to the alternator, and cable fit proper.


I would venture the "lamp" portion of the alternator is not sending (+) voltage to cancel the light, it is staying (-) to keep the lamp illuminated..

Carried and had alternator tested , voltage went from 13.9 the dropped off to 12.2 and would spike back and forth.
Tester said alt was bad, reg problem and some other thing I cant remember.
Guess I will take it back off tomorow.
