Backup Camera

My 2011 Sonata with the large display Nav system has a rubber plug for the backup camera option. Does anyone know if the wiring is in place and what would be required to add a camera or is it more complicated?

I was curious about this, I want to get the SE 2011 Sonata with Nav but I really would like to know if the Nav would be the same as the limited meaning that there would be an input for the backup camera like on the Limited model. In that case you would be able to put an aftermarket backup camera which is inexpensive.

Well, Shark Racing was looking for testers to test out the OEM backup camera, but there were no takers. Are you interested? We have the camera and the plastic panel that the camera goes into, in stock, ready to ship. The camera has 5 wires that need to be connected, but there is a possibility that the connector is already there so you can just plug it in, instead of having to run wires from the trunk to the front of the car.

Well I am in the process of negotiating my SE with the dealership but I would be, so from what your saying the nav in the SE and GLS is EXACTLY the same as the limited as far as connections go so it can accomodate a back camera?

Thanks!

He's saying they're not sure if it will work, thats why why want a tester to be a guinea pig. You buy it from them and attempt to install in your car and then you report back whether you were successful or not.

Well, that's not the whole story. I'm positive it will work. What we're really testing for is ease of installation. The camera has 5 wires coming out, you just connect one to power, one to ground, and two to video + and -, leave one wire free, and that's it. What we're unsure of is whether the wiring for the camera exists in the trunk. If the connector is there, you just have to plug it in, and you're done. If the connector is not there, then you have to splice wires and run wires from the trunk all the way to the monitor, which is time consuming.
Someone should be able to pull the trunk lid cover off and quickly see if a wire is there or not. The lid cover comes off easily and quickly. I already have a factory camera so can't check this for you guys. But have been having a little issue with it going blue so might go in there and make sure all connections are tight.
i thought i remember someone on here saying the SE Nav wasn't the same as the Limited. Something along the lines of the connections weren't the same. i could be wrong however.
It would be nice if we find out that the camera is just plug and play with the SE. I keep saying I'm not adding anymore to this car and then something else comes along. Oh well, let me go make a payment on the credit card.

I definitely would be interested, I just got the SE today with NAV, what a ***** dealing with dealers its draining! Anyways I have a buddy that owns an install shop so I can have him install it, is the camera you have similar to the factory camera in size? He can install a camera as well but it is a little bigger but also he said that the input must be in the back of the NAV. On my old 09 sonata with NAV the input was not there so he was unable to put a backup camera on that one.

Yeah but the 4G Sonata didn't even have an option for backup camera regardless of trim level. So maybe they'll be one with the 5G. But I doubt it with the Dimension nav systems. But hey never know...
In Canada, the limited with Nav / backup camera only comes with Dimension sound system, no infinity here so it might be the same system as the US SE.

Oh wow sweet, then us SE owners might be in luck.

Has anyone else tried to hook up a backup camera in the SE model Nav system? We purchased our SE model about 2 weeks ago and really would like to get some information regarding this subject.....HELP!
****, i wish i had a NAV unit so i could take sharkracing up on that offer.
I wish someone would figure out what it takes to make this backup camera work on the SE. I'd definitely be interested in one once the install is fugured out...but I'm definitely not the guy to figure it out

I don't understand how the camera is activated when you place the car in reverse. Is that already connected to the nav system? Are the cables that are connected to the video + & - going to display the backup camera?

I have the SE edition with navigation and would love to have a backup camera. I just looked in my trunk and didn't see a connector.

Trunk lid cover? Are you talking about the cover over the spare tire? There is a wire under there in the back, but it isn't a female connector, it looks like its going to a speaker.

When you open the trunk, it's now fully up. So if you look straight ahead you will see the bottom of the trunk lid. It will be covered by a carpet liner and there will be screws all the way around and the grab handle to close the trunk. If you undo all the screws and then open up the handle you will find 2 more screws to remove the trunk handle. The liner shoud then just come off. The wire for the camera will be behind there if there is one as the camera is mounted above the license plate.

Let me know if you'd like to be a tester for the kit.
