Android Auto uses the phone's GPS and maps.

I have heard that Andorid Auto can use the cars GPS but I guess that is not the case here.

I think it can use the GPS antenna to improve reception, but it's still using its own GPS and maps. That's my understanding.

So if you're out of reception, like in the boonies, that means it's useless? That would be bad, as where we travel, most of the distances are without reception.

Download the maps to the phone. But if you have an in-car GPS, you can also use that in the boonies, no?
