I have heard that Andorid Auto can use the cars GPS but I guess that is not the case here.
I think it can use the GPS antenna to improve reception, but it's still using its own GPS and maps. That's my understanding.
Download the maps to the phone. But if you have an in-car GPS, you can also use that in the boonies, no?
Yeah, my 2022 Calligraphy has nav, but my point was CarPlay (I have an iPhone) would be basically useless to me. I have to look into the downloading of maps, since the factory nav of my 2022 is absolute crap. The best Hyundai nav I've had was on the 2016 Optima SX-L. The 2021 Palisade Calligraphy was worse. This 2022 SF Calligraphy (and the 2023 G70 as well) is downright horrible. I've missed exits left and right, and that's with my wife paying attention to the maps too. Half the destinations I've used couldn't make it there, due to wrong streets, wrong traffic flow (wrong way), or non-existent location (you just arrived at your destination, but it wasn't there). And it's the latest map version. What I really miss is the 'bong' from the Optima, which told you exactly where the heck to turn. I'm going to set Apple CP myself too (my wife has it), and use it whenever possible. And learn how to download maps, to avoid areas with no service. Oh, and the traffic is crap too; was stopped a freaking hour in Seattle, and the **** thing still showed green all that time.
I think you need to reread how to set up your NAV system, I use it my in-vehicle system everyday as I do many pickups for my charity bike shop including multiple stops. Very rarely do I run across an error and it never has misdirected me. If you have a heads-up display, it will also show the "next" information there as well. I get plenty of "warnings" of where my next turn is so I don't understand your frustration.

Yup, in-car system works well for me. I use AA, but not the maps, prefer in-car.
AA/ CP don't interact with the HUD which is a big negative for me, and as stated, if you have any issues with reception you would lose mapping, unless you had downloaded (luckily nowadays we have higher download limits on phone contracts!).
In-car Nav works great, and with integration on the phone app you can send addresses direct easily enough. Yes recent updates have changed how some of the searching have worked etc, but that just takes getting used to and works fine.

I would love to use the SF's nav with the HUD integration, but there's just no way it can handle optimal routing and traffic re-routing as well as google maps/waze with real-time crowd-sourced traffic data. But for shorter trips or more rural area's it (the SF's nav) might do fine.
I don't have to. This is like my 7th Hyundai with nav, so I know how to use it by now
. And probably my 20th vehicle with nav, so not a newbie. And that's probably my frustration, since previous nav systems were great, and Hyundai has been going backwards. And the mapping just sucks, at least in Oregon and Washington... but that's not Hyundai's fault, as there are only a couple of companies which do that. Today it sent me the wrong way yet again, but it happened to be correct. Ha ha. Oh, and I haven't even mentioned taking us around freaking circles, like if there was an option to make the route as long as possible, and to catch as much traffic as possible. So I use it as a back up now, and one of my daughters has been mapping every destination on her phone, and 9 out of 10 times my nav is wrong. Go figure. But yes, I prefer the car's nav due to the HUD directions, but it needs to get (MUCH) better, starting with the 'bong' when you need to turn (like on the Optima). It also gets future instructions way too in advance, and that's when I've made most of the wrong turns. And this is with the 4 of us looking (and hearing) at the freaking map, and we all have college degrees or better, so it's not that we're stupid . This system surpassed my Porsche's for worst navigation.I know you got contrary answers, but sharing GPS data is part of the AA spec, and has been for years, but... it's app specific (and likely phone specific) as to which it uses.
Check your phone for the location icon in the status bar, things may have changed by now, but it used to be that Waze used the phone's GPS (so you'd constantly see the location icon in the phone's status bar while navigating in Waze on AA), but Google Maps (on AA) would use the car's GPS (so no location icon in the phone's status bar.)

Here in Virginia, my '21 Cali nav works great. So good that I basically never use AA's nav. Not saying the car's is better, it's just that the HUD integration is a big deal to me. AA is a lot more precise, in that it'll take me to literally the front door of wherever I'm going, whereas the Hyundai nav sort of gets to the general area and then sometimes a little confused in, say, a strip mall, but it's good enough for my usage and I love having the directions on the HUD.
