Folks, How about an indexed forum?
I believe we need one more level. We need sub-forums for say engine and drive train, interior, exterior, wheels and suspension, modifications, dealerships and warranty, car care and maintenance, pictures, general chit chat. I have been on this forum for a few months now and have noticed how the same questions are being asked over and over again just because the good info gets buried under all the discussions.

Each sub forum should get a few stickys and each sticky gets an owner where the first posting is updated with the latest info and links. Ula (what happened to her?) started such a thread with the bulbs. I had a similar thread going with information on winter wheels and tires. Both are now somewhere way down.

The easier it will be to get info here the more owners will point people here and the better it will be for the sponsors too. What do you think?

Ula, I believe, lost her patience with some posters and left the forum. It's too bad, too.

I third this!

I fourth this.

Genesis owners are lucky as they have dedicated forums that are threaded by category including off topic forums, featured rides, etc. Would love to see something like that for the YF Sonata. Would prefer it to be here on Hyundai-Forums, but if not, so be it. I think more sponsors would pay to be a part of it if they could get ads in specific threads.

I 6th this.

While we're talking about forum improvements, I think that other things about this forum could be improved.

It doesnt seem like we have a lot of moderator participation in these forums. For almost 3 years, I moderated at LS1.COM and LS2.COM and we had moderator presence in every forum and threads that needed to be locked or merged were addressed within a couple hours of them being posted. I see dupe threads or threads in clearly the wrong forum stick around for days before they are looked into. I want to be clear that I dont think the moderators are doing a bad job, maybe theres just not enough of them to cover every forum. For all I know some other subforums here are heavily moderated while the '11 Sonata one isnt touched as often.

The graphics at the top of the page show the 2010 models. You would think with the excitment the '11 Sonata and Elantras are drawing, they would update their graphics.

Speaking of the '11 Elantras, they still dont have their own subforum yet. The '11 Sonata had a subforum before the model was even for sale.

Im not saying this place is terrible, it just seems like management is a little lax.

Agreed but cost and space is more of an issue I am sure then pleasing a few forum members. The Genesis has plenty of sites because it is a performance based car and can get revenue from aftermarket suppliers.

I brought up the issue of replacing the Sonata in the Header banner with a 2011, about two months ago, in a thread...The moderator's response was that the entire forum had just gone through big overhaul (including the banner) and that they wouldn't be doing so again for a good long while.

That being said, I ,of course, agree with the wanted changes.

The forums are basically just a big database (most likely SQL). Creating a new subforum neither increases size or cost to host the forums. It would just be a different part of the database table.

I actually think I saw that thread. I guess all you can do is say oh well. I like it here and dont really have much to complain about. From being a moderator, I definitely know how much work it is to maintain a large forum. The only thing is, there are a lot of other forums who compete for quality users and posts, and the more up to date the forum looks and feels, the more likely it is to succeed. Even if they had to change their graphics every 6 months, thats a small price to pay to stay on the cutting edge of things.

this is a very large site, we already have 55 forums and sub forums, we also have between 75-100 new posts every day, all this takes a massive amount of control and moderation.

it is impossible for moderators to check every new post that comes onto the boards that is one of the reasons why we have the 'report this post' feature so that if any post falls short of the normal standards members can report the issue and it will be looked into.

there already is a moderator for almost every forum, your dedicated moderator is 'BiXLL' ....have any of you sent him a pm about some of your issues?

part of the other problem you mention is the fact that members (in particular new members) do not use the search engine before posting a question, this has always been an issue from day one and applies to every forum on the site

in my opinion adding extra sub forums from everything from tire pressures to window tints is not the answer it would just make the whole site far to large and impossible to manage, any important subjects can be pinned by your moderator, just ask

BTW the 2011 elantra has had its own sub. forum for the last couple of months

we are in the process of waiting for an update of the sites software over to the v bulletin which will improve things generally

in spite of all this l do think that there are enough moderators on the site, as l said there is a dedicated mod. for almost every forum plus there are 4 senior moderators above these

please use the 'report this post button or send a pm. to your forum moderator in the first instance should you have any problems or concerns, if all else fails you can send a pm to one of the senior mods. or myself

Fair enough. Like I said, I like the site, I am happy to be here.

Only thing though, is maybe Im looking in the wrong spot, but when I go to the Elantra model forum, there is only 1G through 4G listed. There isnt anything for the upcoming '11 model. Here is what I see when I view the forums. Maybe something is missing?

correct me if l'm wrong but in the states at present there is only a 2011 elantra touring available.........this model is known as a i30 in other parts, if you look further down the page you should see the i30/elantra touring forum

Personally I believe an indexed site where people can easily and logically find the info that they are looking for will lead to more reading and less posting which in turn will reduce the moderation load.

I'm sure there are plenty of members here that would dedicate their time to 'mod' a forum. I've been a mod before on a huge honda forum, it's really not that hard if you have the members who are dedicated (many in this thread alone).

I don't think people are asking for a forum for each thread that is made. The general forums within a forum would consist of a few sub forums such as Appearance mods (everything from paint to exterior mods), Performance mods, Care maintenance/trouble shooting, Audio/Electronics, Wheels/Suspension.

I strongly agree with the statement below.

"Personally I believe an indexed site where people can easily and logically find the info that they are looking for will lead to more reading and less posting which in turn will reduce the moderation load."

Based on my car forum experience it SHOULD reduce clutter and repeat topics.

It's alot easier to communicate with mods when you actually see them, i've never seen "BiXLL" post once in this forum, i'm sure he's an awesome guy, but I don't see him around here on a daily basis.

I'll volunteer to mod if you need help. Hopefully I didn't disrespect you, i'm a little frank at times. :)

With the head mod's response in mind, I went ahead and created a reference thread of sorts: http://www.hyundai-forums.com/t51446-2011-...topic-index.htm

Hopefully we can get that stickied. Is that what you sort of had in mind, Ram?
That is an excellent start thanks. What would maybe do is to give each of the linked threads an owner where the owner will use and update the first thread in the posting as an indexed sub thread where he/she can point to various places where the good stuff can be found.

Here is my attempt at a winter tires and wheels thread

Something like this, right?

I still do not see how this would take that much more work to maintain... maybe not a lounge, since there is one for the entire forum, but for everything above that, would it really be harder?

This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
