I noticed a while back that my car's odometer back light was flickering, an unwelcome sight that first reared its head in December, 2008. Both the battery and alternator were bad so they were replaced but the flickering continued, eventually getting so bad that the headlights were doing it, too. The dealership cleaned up all the grounds and the flickering stopped.

I took it in today under the pretense of just having the grounds cleaned again and well whoop-dee-doo...I need another alternator. The replacement was apparently defective (only putting out 11.4 volts at idle) and even though it's out of Hyundai's 12 month/12,000 mile parts warranty, my dealer tried to get Hyundai to good will the repair. They refused. Thankfully my buddy pulled some strings and trimmed the original $576 quote to $270. Thank goodness for small favors and great dealers.

I was hoping to be done with repairs for a while. The car had other plans.
