I recently got a 2003 1.3 Getz and I've been loving it.
I unfortunately have been experiencing a problem with my aircon compressor.

It seems to have shredded up it's bearings and is making a loud rattling noise. The are metal fillings on the area underneath it.

I would like some help identifying causes of such damage so as to avoid future damage. I would also like to know where I ship one (aircon compressor) from (at an affordable rate) since the local dealership at home (Gaborone, Botswana) doesn't have them in stock.

Any suggestions on how to fix the problem. I'm a novice at cars but willing to learn and open to ideas.

If the remains are outside the system that would be the clutch bearing for the compressor. Cut the belt if it is a dedicated belt until you can repair the clutch. If the are many miles on the vehicle it's probably best for an overhaul of the entire system.

The clutch can be problematic to R&R while in the car die to access and rust. If the system needs to be evacuated and the compressor removed it's best IMHO to just replace with a new compressor and clutch. Kits are available on eBay and Amazon for around $300 US.

Thanks for the help.
The remains are outside the system yes.
The belt is not a dedicated belt, it is also linked to the power steering unit. That however gave me an idea to get a shorter belt for the power steering unit then i can fix the clutch at my convenience.
There are a couple of local shops that can fix the clutch.

Just a question of clarification, what does R&R stand for?

Thanks a lot for the help
