My first post here. I bought a used 2006 Sonata a few days ago and it had the main dash airbag warning light lit. It just came off service in a rental fleet and it seems to be in excellent shape otherwise... really enjoying the car so far.
Took it to the dealer today and they said it was just a "history" code - B1448. They cleared it and said there were no circuit failures and that everything was "OK". I don't have much confidence in it not returning. I'm sure it's just a matter of time until it happens again unless the cause it corrected.

I found a description of this code on some obscure site (not hmaservice) and it says this means "Occupant classification sensor defect".
Is this the sensor in the passenger seat? Would it be helpful to unplug the connectors and spray them with contact cleaner, etc ?

Here's the list of airbag warning codes that I found. Not sure if they apply to all models or what years, etc. Maybe someone else can comment.

That's kind of what it sounds like to me, like the sensor is messed up and can't tell if there's an adult or child sitting in the seat. I'd take it back to the dealer with the list you found and question their findings. If they stick to their guns get their findings in writing - this way if someone is injured by an airbag either not coming out out full force, coming out at full force when it shouldn't, or not deploying at all the ball will be in their court. Then again I'm far from an expert and it could be something totally different. Is the light still lit or did it light again ?

Thanks for the list too - I'll put it on the TSB site.

The light hasn't come back on (except for the normal 6 seconds at startup) - but it's only been one day. If it does come on again and I have to take it back to the dealer, hopefully it will be obvious that it's not just a freak code and that there is a real problem that needs looked into. I'll be insistent that they don't just reset the code again without looking for the cause.

Dear Greg,

I just recently paid to get my passenger (occupant) seat air bag seat sensor replaced. It was quite expensive, and my 2001 Sonata was not covered under warranty for this defect.

I am very interested if your code does come back. I failed to ask the dealer what the code was...shame on me. Maybe I could have had it reset, and tried my chances that the code would not come back.

Hi the airbag light on my trajet lights permanently when you start the engine. I have brought to hyundai to check and they said it has codes b1620 srsch internal failure, b1661 srsch unmatching, b1361 and b1367. Is there any way to rectify this without buying a new ECU unit?
