Update:
Chassis work fell through; I need a mig welder to do the unibody stitching as the TIG will not work for this application.
I have however finished the axle. Brakes are not in yet, and will not be fitted until its under the car.
Here is how that went,
I ordered new upper brackets that would be better suited for my axle than the AE86 beefed ones. I also ordered a panhard bar that's supposed to go on the top of the axle for 4x4 trucks (Barnes4x4) I adapted it to work for me. The adjustment points are kind of useless but If I need more diff clearance, no problem
Barnes 4x4 sells un-welded brackets that are like legos and they are extremely cheap in comparison to other places, also the material is 1/4inch thick...
Here is the bracket after it is welded up.
This took a bit of time as I had to continually let my torch cool.
Since it is entirely custom I put it wherever I wanted. It is 90 degree to the pinion/housing, but is spaced further outward than a stock ae86. This will reduce the amount of axle travel from driver to passenger side during its suspension travel.
Fitting the upper brackets and testing the travel of Heim joints
The axle is finally done! Just need to put it under the car and fill it up with oil. Put the brakes on after.
I am very happy with how it turned out.
The metal supplier here has been having a delay on my DOM tube. So making some links is going to be delayed; They are sourcing from a different supplier for me now.
-Soon to come is front end parts (Custom cross member)
-I am considering getting 220+cc runner 65cc chamber heads.
-I am also considering sending the engine off to the machine shop and having some stronger pistons put in it. I really want to be able to turn it up to 1500...
-I am for sure ordering Tick Performance's "Turbo" Camshaft. Proven to make 1000+rwhp on fairly reasonable boost on a single turbo setup!
-New drysump oil pan coming, better design, lower profile I believe by a few millimeters at least.
For bodywork,
I am looking at Enjuku Racing 25mm increased fiberglass front fenders and +45mm rear over fenders. Their prices seem very reasonable and I have no concern with quality if it is coming from Japan. I probably have mentioned before the car is getting a full paint job. Thankfully the shop is now large enough that a plastic spray booth is possible to use inside.
