I'm not sure whether anybody in the forum had the same problem as mine, so here it goes...

Its a relatively simple problem of outside air getting into the car cabin. I had the airflow control permanently set to 'recirculate' and yet outside air still flows in. I looked at the repair manual and suspect that the inlet door in the blower is spoiled (or the foam surrounding it), that's why outside air creeps in.

Now, the problem is that when I asked a technician to repair it, he said that the dashboard need to be dismantled in order to get to the a/c blower. I'm not too keen on having the dashboard removed as I know there is a big possibility it might not be reinstalled properly or some of the clips may get broken. I referred it to another technician and he said the same thing. Worse, both said that I should also bring it in for servicing even though the a/c system is fine, then they'' fix the problem while they are at it.

The repair manual says nothing about dismantling the dashboard in order to get to the blower. Its accessible from the glove compartment. But technicians are saying otherwise. I hope someone has solved a similar problem as this. TIA.

Thanks for your reply. I had the problem fixed last weekend. It wasn't so serious, but the task of dismantling the blower & evaportor units is quite cumbersome. The dash wasn't dismantled, but the technician removed the glove box, the center panel, the speedometer and the panel underneath the steering in order to detach the blower & evaporator units The problem is caused by the air inlet door in the blower; it wasn't closing properly. There is a gap which allows outside air to flow into the cabin. The solution was to tighten the door mechanism. I didn't want to deal with this problem again so I had the air inlet permanently sealed (via duck tape :). I had the cooling coil also cleaned since it was already out, and I was glad I did coz the a/c is so much cooler now.
