My 86 accent's has a tapping sound at idle that used to only happen around 3000 mi. and a oil change would make it go away. The sound has progressed to happening all the time even after I had a oil flush and change. Any suggestions.

Yeah most definitely.
If you have noticed that after every oil change and flush, the noise is evident and then after you have run the engine for a while, the noise deminishes until you have carried out your next oil change, then this pretty much points at your lifters, these are the components that will first give note of problems in your oil PRESSURE system.
In the sense that these will be the first items to give evidence of failure when your engine gets older or even neglected.
