Anyone tried this? I want to go to wider rubber as it's almost time to buy tires and Continental has a $70 gift card on a set of 4 deal so getting the new Extreme Contact Sport Ultra High Performance summer rubber (am in Vegas where it never gets cold). They will physically fit on the rim but wanted to know if any rubbing on inner fender in front? Anyone? TIA!

How wide are the OE wheels? Most online tire sellers will suggest the proper wheel width for the tire

They are 6.5 inch. 7 inch would be better but 6.5 will do in a pinch.

Miata guys use 225/50's on their 16X6.5 inch factory rims and have zero issues. Their cornering limits are FAR above what a stock Elantra can do. Pretty sure I'm not endangering myself.

I don’t see rubbing being an issue, guru. Not at all.

I upgraded one size to 225/50R/17 Pirelli’s over the stock Nexen’s that came on the car. Still have them in the shop. Wanted more (better) wear performance (defined: mileage) than OEM offered. Which was good, btw. I digress.

I have plenty of room under the fenders. Using 6.5” Sonsta chrome 5-spokes. Virtually same offset as factory rims. Tires have presented zero issues with regard to ride, rim stability, etc. Not my first rodeo on this tire conversion. I bumped up a size on my 2011 E and my 2013 E Limited’s. Using same 6.5” rims. One size up on both. Plenrty of clearance. Actually filled in the wheel well a bit better and more appealing to the eye. HOWEVER, in all 3 instances, the tires snuck outside the fender just a tad bit. On a dirt puddle, you could see the sling off on the fender. Not bad, but noticeable. But no biggie when looking at the overall appearance.

Now all you have to do is unstack some paper and look for a tire sale. Shoot a pic of the mod when you’re done.

I will. Thank you for the info and can't wait to get summer rubber on this thing. No matter what car you have, the only thing touching the pavement are those 4 contact patches. Oh and since I live in desert not much rain or mud around here. Just dust. . . lot's and lot's of dust.

Update! I got my Continental Extreme Contact summer tires mounted on the stock 16's today. 225/50R16. They look great and obviously substantially increased grip both from the compound/tread and from the increased width. Will take pics and expand on my opinions after I get some sleep. Been working all night and running errands all morning. BTW, have tested and so far no rubbing that I can discern. So far elated.
