Since upgrading to iOS15:

I have CarPlay on screen and Sirius XM playing. I receive a text and I tap to listen to it. Once done, XM does not resume playing. It essentially shuts off the radio when I tap to play a message. Before iOS15, SXM would resume once the message was read.

I live in the Caribbean and have a 2022 Tucson made in South Korea. While there are some differences from North American models, I believe the 8” wireless CarPlay stereo is the same.

What I found was that when setting up for CarPlay, I get a prompt to “sync contacts”. If I say yes, I get a standard Bluetooth phone/music connection to the car - and CarPlay connection does not complete.

However, if I choose “no, don’t sync contacts”, the CarPlay connection proceeds seamlessly and connects automatically thereafter every time.

Hopefully this helps someone.

Not sure why you double posted in two different topics.

But press on the steering wheel radio tune control to unmute.

Posting a follow-up on this thread related to the previous comments here. For me, I have good news to report (kind of). After upgrading our iPhone XR to iOS 15, it didn't make the problem go away. A few days later my SO got the iPhone 13, which also runs iOS 15. After cleaning out all the old connections, resetting the radio, and using the phone for the last week or so, I can report there have been zero drops between radio and phone. Prior to this it would drop at least one, if not more, on every drive.

So I'm guessing there is some level of a difference between the chipset or transmission hardware and interoperability with this radio. It does seem to be fixed though and hope some of the others on this trail are seeing positive results as well. Good luck!

Glad to hear it, most people have reported that the latest Hyundai firmware fix and iOS 15 have cleared up the problem.

Have you tried the same thing in clearing CarPlay® out of your iPhone and also the car and letting it re-pair itself? The wi-fi on both is just a fast in AC mode and the base processor speed is not that far off. The only thing I can think of is that the 13 does have more physical memory (not disk but processor memory) so buffering might be better on it.

Apple doesn't publish the processor memory for each unit but a developer (I have a dev license) can pretty easily tell.

On the old phone (iPhone XR) I tried clearing out the all the connections (CarPlay, Bluetooth, etc.). No luck. Also tried resetting Network functions in settings and a few other things and nothing ever seemed to help. I thought I got lucky a few times, but the drops would come back quickly. You might be right on the buffering and that adds a factor into it. We have the 256GB model and I heard that it has a faster memory response than the base 128GB, but I'm not sure if that's accurate.

Did you find a Hyundai firmware fix for the 2022 Tucson SEL Convenience Hybrid? I've been looking for a while and haven't found an update yet for the radio or anything else on their site.

The 22's are too new to show up on the TSB site. But my guess is that they are the same and may also apply.
You may want to ask your dealer if these are applied.

I have the same issue! The text is read and then the radio is off. I have to hit the radio button to get it to play. Also, when on CarPlay, the xm will not play from CarPlay. I have to play it from the radio.

That certainly looks like the description of the issue we were having. I called our local Hyundai dealer and talked to their service department. They said the '22s don't have a TSB or fix yet, but Hyundai is aware of the issue and has been working with Apple on the problem. He stated that they had a bunch of other appointments on it and they can't fix the issue until Hyundai works it out with Apple. He went on to say it would likely be some kind of radio update like prior models/years had done.

We did end up having one drop this morning on the 13, but it was dropping every drive with the XR, so at least its much better. Fingers crossed they come out with a more permanent fix soon.

I will tell you that I’m taking my car in this Thursday for the problem. I have taken a video showing the trouble and I will get careful documentation of the visit from the dealer as well as keeping track of all correspondence. They are either going to fix the problem or the lemon law is going to be a problem for them. This is my third car with CarPlay and neither of the other two had any issues. This was a selling point of the car for me and I would have absolutely gotten a different brand if I had known ahead that this was a problem with Hyundai.

I am having constant issues and asked if I could upgrade to ultimate which has wired. They said it would cost me 10,000 more for 4 yr lease to upgrade. Criminal. They are selling these vehicles knowing that wireless appleplay is not working. I know am stuck with vehicle without being able to use Apple Music or gps. This should be illegal.

Good news, Apple release the iOS 15.0.2 update which resolve the CarPlay disconnect issue. I bought the 2022 Tucson 2 weeks ago with my iPhone X with iOS 15. However I still keep experience disconnection and some apps not open, but now update to iOS 15.0.2 and all the apps works fine plug disconnect issue resolved.
Please read this article if you experience similar issue.

There is a small pin reset button on the head unit. In my SEL, it’s near the bottom left corner of the screen. Push that with a pin when Carplay starts to act up and it should reboot the infotainment screen. This is the only way to actually get the system to reboot on command, the only other option is shutting off the vehicle for an inconvenient period of time. iPhone 12, iOS 14.7
This worked for me. The pin reset. Thank you so much

My car is 10 days old and on a long trip today I had the same experience. Wondering how to fix this as my previous Tucson (2016 Limited) did not have this problem.

When I go to the Hyundai app, I have to then go to radio then to Xm and it plays from the car not CarPlay. Now I plugged in for CarPlay, hit the lines at the bottom, went to xm and it worked! In the past has told me it couldn’t connect. It’s just really frustrating. Still can’t use it for maps and have it say the directions over the radio 🤪
