Hello, I just bought a 2020 Sonata Limited and just discovered that door seal are properly installed in the right place as a result when it rains or when I wash the car water gets trapped between the door frame and the body of the car and when I open the door water gushes out in large volumes. I had this car for one day when I discovered the problem because it rained the same day I brought the car home. I took the car back to the dealership and they wash the and had the same leaky results. The dealership called Hyundai Headquarters and was told that that is just the way the car was made that way and that there is nothing they can do about it. Hyundai need to recall this vehicle now.

My 2020 Sonata does the same exact thing with both back doors. This should be fixed. It's obviously a design problem. How long before the water gets into the carpets and upholstery?

FWIW - You might want to check out this active discussion. More info for you. I think it's the same thing, if not, very similar.

I leased a 2020 Sonata SE end of February. I noticed water at the bottom of rear doors after heavy rain. The water gushes out when you open the doors. Has anyone hear any response from Hyundai Motors. I am wondering if it is a design defect. I haven't visited the dealership since Covid19 pandemic.

It's not a design defect because not all cars do it. Mine doesn't.

I'm getting part #831301000 (I think, tough to read the hieroglyphs of the techs writing) installed next month, along with a new weatherstripping for the wind noise. The first part is the weatherstripping that sits above the chrome strip on the rear door and mine has a noticeable gap which (I believe) allows water to get in the door. The second is the "soft" weatherstripping that runs along the top of the inside of the front driver's door. I don't have a part # for this. I'll also get the remote park recall perform at the same time.
Hopefully all 3 issues will get resolved.
