The outside rubberized door lock buttons on my 2013 Sonata Ltd are intermittently not working. I have to push them several times before they respond. It started on the driver's side door and now the passenger's side door's button is doing the same thing.

When it was just one side, I thought it might be that the button had gotten some moisture behind since the car was outside for several days in hard rain, but now I'm wondering if the power switch on the inside of the driver's door got some water in it when I was getting in or out of the car. (I had that problem with an earlier leased Sonata, and the power window would intermittently stop working.)

The door locks do respond to the fob and work OK inside the car. Any suggestions? I've just moved from the DC area to the Boca Raton/ Boynton Beach area, so I don't have a reliable dealer to talk to. Thanks for any suggestions.

The battery in the fob is less than a year old, and the car locks and unlocks when I press the fob buttons. It’s the rubberized buttons on the door handles that are the problem. I used to have the car in a garage all the time, but now it’s on a driveway. I wonder if the sun has hardened the buttons so that they are too stiff. They do seem less flexible than previously.

I had the same issue. I haven't owned by '14 for a year yet and had replaced the battery once already. I noticed intermittent door buttons not responding, but the fob buttons worked. Car started each time with no issue "seeing" the key. Replaced battery, now door buttons work 100% of the time.

I have a slight delay in mine sometimes before it unlocks but they always work. The only time they don't is if the fob is too far away. Where is the fob at when you are doing it? I've noticed if the fob is in my left pocket and I my body is facing forward with the car the button doesn't work until I am actually facing the car. 11 Sonata SE

I always carry the fob in my handbag.

Oddly, the problem went away once the weather cleared up. Now, it’s supposed to rain the entire weekend. It’ll be interesting to see if the buttons start to stick again.
