Hello everyone.

Here is the situation the wife is having on her coupe. For the last several months the distance to empty has been decreasing. When she purchased the car the dealer recommended that only high octane fuel be used. The first tank out yielded 387 miles to empty. After the first oil change the distance to empty dropped to by 80 miles. It stayed the same for the next 2 oil changes and now has dropped to 287 miles to empty. There are no mods on the car other than after market rims which are lighter than factory installed.

The car is automatic with the speed shift and steering paddles. It spends it life in automatic and has yet to be driven like it was stolen and designed for!!

This can only be answered by saying "It depends." Is the gas tank filled to the top? How is her driving habits (More city or more highway)? The distance to empty is a calculation based on MPG and how full the tank is.

Disconnect the battery from the car for about 10 minutes.

For example take the car out on the highway drive it for about an hour at 55 mph using very light throttle. If you shoot for the highest MPG by driving lightly. Then go fill up and look at the distance till empty you will see that it increases.
