I recently ordered and tried to install front strut/spring assemblies and sway bar links on my 2012 Sonata GLS. When I removed the strut/spring assembly from my vehicle, it did not match up with the ordered parts. I contacted the parts supplier and they asked for my VIN. Based on that, they said I have the sports suspension on my car. I looked through all my documentation and nothing is stated anywhere saying my car was equipped with the sport suspension. The strut/spring assemblies provided were similar, but the mounting points for the ABS wiring and sway bar links were all different. I have attached a picture.

One other major difference was the length of the sway bar links. The links that were on my car were about 15 1/2" long. The links in the kit I ordered were only about 14" long. I have attached a picture.

Is there any way to distinguish between a sport vs. a standard suspension. Does the sway bar link length difference tell me anything?

Any help is appreciated!

I have a 2012 GLS purchased used in 2013. I tracked my VIN and production date and all I can find from one website was (5291MA) AL WHEEL 6.5J*16 - A TYPE and (5411A7) FR SUSP TYPE - MACPH. W/COIL SPRING + H. Since my car have a 16" OEM aluminum wheels, I am not certain of the next code, 5411A7, is a sport suspension. However, I had the chance to snap some pictures when I replaced the both front stabilizer links with OEM one's purchased from a seller from Korea.

At certain point, I called my dealer and asked for a price quote and part numbers. They gladly gave me the part numbers for Driver Side 54651-3Q620 and Passenger Side 54661-3Q620. Both are priced above CA$250 each. I kept on researching and recently checked KYB's website and I found these part numbers for 2011 and it looks exactly what I have, Left - KYB 3340103, Right – KYB 3340102.

If anyone has questions about theirs, 1aauto explains and actually shows you a picture of what the difference is when it comes to the control arm and the struts. I have a 02 GLS with sport suspension which I had no idea until yesterday.

Hey,

I have a 2011 GLS and had a sway bar link and lower control arm replacement. The shop called me to tell me that my car actually has a sport suspension, so they charged me more because they had taken the parts apart already...

Never went back to that shop to get more than an oil change last I recall.

"Gee that's funny, I never told you which suspension I have, you just assumed. No I will not be paying extra because you bought the wrong one."
