My car recently was repaired after a front-right end hit and run. My problem is that I don't think the alarm is working as it should. They replaced the front bumper/hood. Double tapping the lock causes the lights to blink and the horn to sound as usual.

Does the alarm on a 2009 Elantra go off if Armed by the key fob but unlocked manually with the key? (It doesn't do this and I thought it did before the accident). I've had conflicting reports from dealerships... the one checking the alarm says using the key manually disarms the alarm system even if armed by the key fob. The other two dealerships say if armed by the key fob it must be disarmed by the key fob.

How can I test to make sure the alarm is arming properly? Are there any indicator lights on the dash that come on or any way that I can safely cause it to go off?

Thanks!

"Disarmed stage
The system will be disarmed when the
doors are unlocked by depressing the
unlock button on the transmitter or
unlocked with the ignition key."

From page 4-7 of the owners manual
