Been having the issue on and off. Randomly the 4x4 turns on without the button being pushed. I can feel the tires binding, but as it should it turns off once going over 40. I have tried using the button to try and turn it off, but that does nothing. Sometimes it goes away while driving at highway speeds, sometimes it needs to sit over night.
When using the button it seems to operate normally. Any have any ideas what might be going on or where to begin?

In what coditions does the awd come in to play.
When accelerating fairly hard in the wet weather the front tires will wheel spin. The awd system computes there is slippage at the front wheels and will engage the rear diff coupling so as to make the Tucson have more and better tire grip on the wet road and give better acceleration. It will decouple the rear diff when tracton is regained with the front tires

It's the 4wd lock, not the AWD. And it can be parked when it engages or while driving on wet or dry roads.

You may have a sensor or TCM /4wd error
or failure. May be one of times when a visit to the Hyundai dealership is a good idea. They can use there checker to find possible faults etc. 4wd is a feature that doesn't really give much problem. But that is a personal opinion.
