Hello and hope that someone out there can help me figure this out. I cannot find a transmission manual to check out this problem.

My backup lights come on when the car is in first gear, and also during the cross over point from 1-2nd and 3-4. The switch is new, the old one was intermittant checking with a multimeter. It has the same depth and is in fact identical to the switch I took out.

The transmission works smooth and feels good from the gear shift rod.

I think the switch is supposed to be activated by an internal fork for reverse, but why it comes on in first gear is way beyond me. Mystery.

Any ideas, strange or not, please let me know.

Thank you,
Bob

Solved the problem and it's interesting...

Some =)(&/%& was too lazy and didn't check which connectors go to which switch. I found that the Yellow and Black conductor connector is supposed to go the backup switch and the Blue/Orange and Black conductor connector is supposed to go to the Neutral Switch. That's why the lights lit up when the gearshift was in neutral. Hope it didn't do any damage....
