My car has 114,000 miles and I started noticing a whining sound while accelerating only when the air conditioner was on. If I turned the a/c off there was no sound. My car runs very quietly so hearing a whining sound becomes very noticeable. I had to have some work done on my car so I was hoping that by having a new timing belt, water pump, balancer belt, crankshaft position sensor, and auto tensioner something would correct the issue. I didn't tell the dealership about the noise which was probably a big mistake. Three days later, the noise actually sounded as though the whining was getting a bit louder. Anyway, today is extremely hot so I had my a/c on and a few hours later I noticed she wasn't cooling so well. The whining sound isn't as loud now but the a/c is kicking in every few seconds. Usually you can feel a difference when the compressor kicks in because it takes a little power away from the car but now this is happening every few seconds. I lifted the hood and noticed when the a/c is turned on the radiator fans start to turn but then just stop. That will cause the a/c to try again and the process continues over and over with no real cold air coming into the car.

Does this sound like a compressor or relay issue? Or something else?? After spending so much money on repairs I was hoping to give my pocketbook a break for a while.

get the gas level checked asap in you a/c system asap.
if it is normal, then you need to take the car to an a/c specialist asap to get them to check the compressor. could be expensive if this is the case.
