Recently purchased a 4-speed beauty. Love it, but mileage is disappointing--about 24 highway, 20 in town. Using "sports mode" makes no difference to mpg. Should I be expecting something better? Any tips? Thanks!
(What is that sports mode for, anyway? You move into it and the tacometer doesn't budge.)

Edmunds.com (2004 Hyundai Sonata MPG - Gas Mileage Data | Edmunds.com) puts it at 20 city, 28 highway, and 23 combined. Seems to me you're right where you should be.

Sports mode just lets you pretend like you have a manual transmission and shift the car on your own. It has safety measures that will shift the car automatically when it hits a critical point so as to not damage the engine or transmission. Don't use sports mode if your looking for the best possible gas mileage.
