Hello,

My apologies if I am doing this wrong - new to the forum(s). I currently own a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe with 135,000K miles on it, and have had continual problems with the A/C not blowing cold over the last year or so.

A year ago, took it to what I thought was a reputable mechanic (not a dealer) who diagnosed the problem as a "bad" master circuit board. Parts and labor = $1,200 (ouch). Thing ran fine for about 6 months, then started to intermittently blow warm air, until it finally quit blowing cold. Wanted to take it back to guy who fixed it, but he's out of business (gee, isn't that swell).

Finally broke down and took it to the dealer hoping they would be able to fix the problem. They charged me $110 and told me the refrigerant was low so they topped it off. 6 weeks later, once again not blowing cold, took it back. They said this time they found a "leak" in the refrigerant hose, replaced the hose, topped off the refrigerant, and sent me on my way (free of charge, of course, since they should have fixed it the first time).

Well...6 weeks later and once again, not blowing cold, so back to the dealer I go. Once again, they said the hose was "leaking" and they did the dye test (shouldn't they have done this the first time?) and replaced the hose, and the refrigerant. Good for another 6 weeks, then once again, not blowing cold.

BACK to the dealer again, and this time they said they "found the leak" and replaced the hose AND a "missing clam;"? What? Ok, I am mad but not that mad, as I haven't been paying for any of this - but once again, only 4 weeks after the last fix, it is once again not blowing cold.

Any ideas? This is getting RIDICULOUS, and I am getting tired of taking my car to them, having to rent a car for a week, and then not getting any answers. I would like to get some other opinions as to what might be wrong (they claim the compressor is FINE) and take "suggestions" in to them - I guess I will have to do some of their work for them as well.

Any input GREATLY appreciated. I would get rid of this darned thing if I could, but can't afford to just yet, and it is too warm where I live to go without A/C.

I just read an article that may be the problem, it said you should check the condenser fan if the condenser fan doesn't work or rotate at all when you turn on the a/c it will blow hot intermittently and while idle I would check the plug connection to the fan but pull then power first so the fan doesn't chop any fingers off and then the fuses.

You do not state which engine we playing with... SM chassis can be quirky for A/C..

The 2.7L likes to leak R-134 out of compressor body.. hoses kinda non-issue, but it does happen randomly, but not regular ocurrance here. Common leak between the 2.4L, 2.7L, and 3.5L is the evaporator core.. wont find leak unless it leak enough oil to run out the drain tube (dye make it easy to spot), some time smell PAG oil in the duct when HVAC fan run and blow it out vent.

Notice in the pic the wet dirt at lower left,, oil and dirt,,, also note that this car ran a good while without HVAC filter too,, see al the tree and lawn debris the filter could have caught ?? Why does my HVAC smell like a wlak in the woods ?

Any idea what could cause the a/c to blow warm air when none of these are the issue? I have a 2001 Santa fe 2.7. I Found a leaky needle valve on the low side, replaced it it thinking that was it and it just needed freon. When I started adding freon it was actually overcharged. I'm clueless.

Wild,

Recommend you start a new thread. Update your profile
to include your vehicle info. In the new thread, tell your
story of what has been done and what the status is now.
This AC system works well when properly serviced, but if
you get too much or not enough Freon, it gets squirrelly.

Welcome,
Paul

Likely not installed at time of manufacture.. you can remove the flap and install filter if you choose.. I did a 120 service on a 2003 w/3.5L last week.. no filter in it until I put 1 in it.

So, just go to my local dealer parts department and ask for the application for my Santa Fe?

Walk into dealer, visit the part counter, tell the fella you want a cabin air filter.

I have the same issue. Last summer the ac worked great, but not this year. You recommend getting service done on it? Dye to check for leaks( condensor), then refill if all is good.
