If it's recently cracked or split and you notice thickened oil deposits in it, then that's a problem. Your crankcase is not properly ventilating the blow by gases, which will cause the oil vapors to goop it all up in there. Bad news for a relatively easy and inexpensive maintenance.

Before replacing that hose, check your PCV valve (or if you can't remember the last time you replaced it, spend an extra 7 bucks or so and do it now).

If it has a lot of miles on it there is probably carbon packed around the oil control rings on the pistons causing excessive blowby assuming the PCV valve is good.
