All right guys, I need some help. There I was, driving to a job interview of all things, when My 2002 Santa Fe completely cut out on me with no warning while I was driving. It took me a second to even realize that it had turned off. I coasted over to the shoulder and I haven't been able to start it since. It trys to turn over but will not fire up. any feedback would be extremely appreciated. It is a 4 cylinder, 5 speed manual trans. The oil is fine and it has a full tank of gas.

welcome to the forums :00000732:

there could be a number of causes, the most likely being a broken camshaft belt (what's the mileage? has the belt been changed?) also there could be problems such as no fuel (pump or relay faults) or camshaft sensor etc.

it needs to be diagnosed by someone who knows what there are doing, report back when you have more information

I understand that, I just wanted to try and eliminate the more simple things that I could possibly do myself by process of elimination. Because it will not even start, it will take me well over $100 just to have it towed to the nearest shop. I obviously, didn't expect anyone to give me cure but, perhaps, just help me eliminate the minor things that could be wrong.

It has 130+K miles and I hadn't had a chance to any maintenance on it as I only purchased this car used two months ago.

Sounds to me like your timing belt has broken as it would have been due for its second replacement at 120,000. I would not try to start the car again because if the belt is in fact broken, you're only risking further damage. I would have it towed either to a Hyundai dealer or a reputable local mechanic and have it checked out. Also bear in mind that the 4-cylinder engine has a balance shaft belt which will also need to be replaced.

well you were right...I towed it to a shop and it is the timing belt and the balance shaft belt. @It will be $550 to be able to drive again :(

Thanks for the help!
