Hi, I recently got a car, but for some reason I just have this small issue.

My tailights or breaklights stay on, and I can't seem to have them go off. I checked the switches for the lights, all of them work, but the back lights will not go off.

I'm not sure if it's the parking break or what, would you guys happen to know?

It's a 2001 Hyundai Sonata GLS 4 door.

The parking brake does not activate any of the rear lights.

The "tail" lights operate when the stalk is turned to the first (parking light) or second (headlight) position.

If it were the tail lights sticking on, the license plate light would be lit as well.

As a test, step on the brake pedal. Do the rear lights change brightness? Is the highmounted (3rd) light lit?

The brake lights are turned on by a small plunger switch mounted just above the brake pedal arm. The switch may have failed or is simply out of adjustment.
