does anyone know if i can just cut and re connect these 2 wires to a different battery post?

i forget the colors right now and can get a pic of them tomorrow if necessary, but they are 2 16 or 18 gauge wires that are on a plug that can be disconnected from the negative terminal on the battery.

i'm looking to change out my battery terminals as well as doing the "Big 3" upgrade with 0gauge wire and want to know what these are before i do.

I'm not a fan of molesting the factory wiring.
I agree and this is especially true of these electric and electronic complex cars of today since any mods or as sngladad says molestation is reason to deny warranty work and you might have to pay to have it returned to factory before any trouble shooting would be done by a dealership. They sold you a particular configured vehicle and if you give them something back that has been modified then you have IMO opened the proverbial "BARN DOOR" to all sorts of things.

I'm bored at work and this looks fun...Power is power, ground is ground. What is hooked up to it follows these principles. When the battery dies because you left the stereo playing all night did the airbags deploy? No. If the battery dies because it's faulty what did I do? Remove the ground, remove the power and replace. If you terminal the cables correctly you will be fine. Now warranty is a whole different bag of apples.

Here is the information on the sensor located on the negative terminal. It needs to be there, it is used to control the alternator among other things so you can't eliminate it and just connect all the wires to a regular terminal. The following is from the HMA service site-

Vehicles have many control units that use more electricity. These units control their own system based on information from diverse sensors. It is important to have a stable power supply as there diverse sensors giving a variety of information. Battery sensor is mounted on battery (-) terminal. It transmits battery voltage, current, temperature information to ECM. ECM controls generating voltage by duty cycle based on these signals.


When battery sensor signal fault occurs, inspect the vehicle parasitic draw in advance after inspecting the sensor because the sensor will behave abnormally when the parasitic draw is more than 100mA. (Refer to vehicle parasitic current inspection)

Perform the following process after replacing the battery sensor.
1.Ignition switch ON/OFF.
2.Park the vehicle about 4 hours.
3.After 4 hours later, check the SOC (State of charge) of battery using GDS.

For the vehicle equipped with a battery sensor, be careful not to damage the battery sensor when the battery is replaced or recharged.
1.When replacing the battery, it should be same one (type, capacity and brand) that is originally installed on your vehicle. If a battery of a different type is replaced, the battery sensor may recognize the battery to be abnormal.
2.When installing the ground cable on the negative post of battery, tighten the clamp with specified torque of 4.0~6.0N.m (0.4~0.6kgf.m, 3.0~4.4lb-ft). An excessive tightening torque can damage the PCB internal circuit and the battery terminal.
3.When recharging the battery, ground the negative terminal of the booster battery to the vehicle body. If the negative cable from a battery charger is connected to the negative terminal of the battery, the battery sensor can make an error. In this case, repeat the above process for battery sensor replacement (1~3) after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery connector.

I don't think he said anything about not using them or even another battery type or brand. He asked if it could be on another terminal. Which if used on the same battery, is ground even going by the stated material.

The current sensor is an integral part of the negative terminal, it would not be possible to use a standard terminal in its place and retain its function. Without it the alternator would not work properly and there would probably be codes set.
There is also a 150A main fuse built into the positive terminal, so if the positive terminal were replaced an equivalent external fuse would have to be added.

I have a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. I read a post on fixing an audio on/off issue I have and it indicated that after pulling the yellow fuse outwards the battery ground needs to be disconnected for 5 minutes. Is that done at the negative battery terminal and I am assuming it is the side plastic connector with wires coming out. If so do I just need to pull it out?

NO. Those two wires are only for the Sensor that Fox wrote about above . . .

To disconnect the ground you need to remove the (entire, complete) negative battery cable terminal from the battery. This is only slightly more difficult than unplugging that plastic connector.
