I'm in the market for a used Terracan and I've found a few models available locally, some with the 2.5 Intercooled and some with the 2.9 CRDi. I've read around that the 2.5s can have issues with the oil sludging up and killing the turbo, does this issue affect the 2.9s also?

Are there any other issues I should know about that affect either engine?

Is there a noticeable difference in fuel consumption or power between them?

Thanks!

The 2.5 was never available in Australia so I can't really comment but I'm pretty sure the 2.9 has a lot more power and torque and is a more modern engine.
The 2.9 is widely known as a pretty reliable unit AFAIK...

we run 2 2.9s and have almost no problems, having said that clutch is suspect on one but appears to slip occasionally!
the other one got stubborn starting sometimes! fuel primer bulb valves suspect, back leakage coupled with one injector suffering excess leak off.
new part ordered from ebay £30. will see what that does.
