Hyundai Announces Pricing On New Sonata Turbo

Hyundai has announced pricing for its all-new Sonata 2.0T Turbo, which will start at $24,145 for the Sonata SE 2.0T and $27,045 for the Sonata Limited 2.0T. Both prices are before the destination charge of $720. The Sonata Turbo will feature Hyundai's new direct-injected turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which Hyundai claims will churn out 274 horsepower while earning a 33 mpg EPA highway rating.

The engine produces 269 lb-ft of torque from 1750-4500 rpm while delivering a 22 mpg EPA city rating. Another boon for consumer pocket books is the Sonata 2.0T delivers these numbers on regular fuel. The 2.0T engine (which is roughly a $1,500 option), will be available on the SE and Limited trim level, with the 2.0T SE adding an upgraded fully automatic temperature control system, and the Limited adding the SE's 18-inch hyper silver alloy wheels, dual exhaust, and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

"When we first showed the Sonata Turbo earlier this year, we promised more horsepower than our V6 competitors, with great four-cylinder fuel economy, all for under $25,000," said John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor America president and CEO. "With the introduction of the Sonata 2.0T, we're delivering on all three of those commitments."

for some reason i thought this would be a hotter topic.... anyone know a release date, when it hits dealers
11 of October will see an initial 328 sent to dealers. They're manufactured in a 9NA - 1Turbo ratio so don't expect to see many. They moved most of the planned upgrades to 2012.

in a perfect world that would have been my purchase, but I have too little self-control to actually get 33mpg out of the turbo, and I would have waited half a year more to get a car, so I'm still happy with my GLS! The $24k price point is really nice though.

I'm definitely getting the turbo limited, but not this year, i'll wait till the 2012 version and just pray that all the features of the current limited 2.0T carry over, and they make available a panoramic roof by that time.

Once the pano roof becomes avail + all the current features, i'll be extremely happy with my purchase.

Get an Optima in Dec. It has all the features and more.

I HATE turbo (or S/C) cars, so won't be buying one until I have no other option (hope this doesn't happen in my lifetime ), but the difference in price is really minimal. I see the turbo cannibalizing sales of the N/A, but that means turbos will be selling at MSRP (and maybe with a tacked on extra here and there), while the 'regular' ones will continue to be discounted. Let's see how that plays out.

Why is it that the Optima is better equipped than the Sonata. Forgive me if I am wrong, but isn't the MSRP of the Optima < Sonata?

Seems as if the top of the line Optima is going to be far nicer than the Sonata.

from what i can find msrp for the new optima hasnt been released . has it?

From what I gathered from messing with the beta car configurator, the Optima just had a different mix of options at a given price point. So you had heated seats but unheated mirrors, and the like. I prefer the styling of the Sonata although the Optima isnt bad either.

I think the Optima will be targeted at the customers who are looking for the value of the Sonata but with different styling. I personally LOVE my curvy Sonata but other people might think it's too jellybean like.

Feature and price list for Sonata Turbo and Hybrid (minus price of Hybrid). It also compares it to other Sonata's so you get to see what is different. This is for the Canadian models so some features are different from the US cars. But looks like panoramic sunroof only on Hybrid with premium package.
No pano roof is a bit of a bummer, though I like that the Limited 2.0T will get 18" wheels, dual exhaust, and the SE suspension...assuming all the Canadian goodies make it here to the US, eh?

We got everything you guys got minus SE model, Infinity speakers and tire pressure monitor. I don't think we have anything you don't have. For comparison purposes.

Canadian GL = American GLS
Canadian GLS = upgraded GL not really A American SE as it doesn't have dual exhaust, sport tuned, 18" or push button.
Canadian Limited = American Limited.
Canadian Turbo = looks like it is the same as the American SE Turbo
Canadian Limited Turbo = American Limited Turbo.
