There are some older threads asking concerning an air bag light that is always on but not much information on figuring out why. Are there any diagnostic procedures I can do at home to help narrow down the reason or is this a dealer only item? Anyone else have this issue? I bought this car used about 5 years ago and it has been on for the whole time.

To diagnose the reason for the light being on you would need to scan the SRS control module to read the trouble code that is being logged. That is something you can do at home if you buy a scan tool capable of communicating with the SRS module. Unfortunately a cheap generic OBD scan tool isn't capable of doing that. You'd need to invest a $100 or so on for a tool capable of scanning the SRS if you wanted to diagnose the issue DIY. There are a few folk on the forum who have used the Autel AL-619 scan tool to diagnose SRS faults on Hyundai cars....link below :
