Hi:
I'm new to this forum, so I hope this is posted in the right place.

I'm in the process of replacing all 4 rotors and all brake pads on my wife's 06 Sonata (6 cycl.). Removal of the front calipers is easy enough, but I can't get the rotors off. I haven't had any success in loosening the philips screws that I assume need to come out in order to pull the rotors away from the hub. Is there something I'm missing or is there a trick to doing this? I'd greatly appreciate any tips/help on this. Thanks so much!

From all of my experience, the best way to get the rotors off is with pure force. Take a wooden block and a mallet and give it your best shot from behind the rotor. Don't be shy, these things are strong!

Sorry, I missed the part about the phillips head screw. I didn't encounter that problem. I'm sure others in this forum will be able to help

The problem he is having is with the philips screws, same problem I had. You try to remove them, they strip out. My dad helped me remove them, he had a screw extractor kit. Using a drill bit, drill into the head of the screw, then insert(or hammer????) screw extractor, then using plyers loosen screw extractor which has bonded itself to screw.

The rotors were stubborn to come off, a hammer was useless. One whack with a sledge hammer and they came right off.

those philip heads can round out easily. i
have you tried soaking with a lot of penertating oil first. then get a impcat driver with a heavy hammer.
i wouldn't use a impact wrench of any tpye. if you strip the philips head you'll have a hella of a time removing them.
jusy mt 2cents worth.

I've used PB Blaster and waited overnight. It usually works with corroded/rusted screws/bolts.

all you need is a impact driver you can purchase these very cheap at a local auto parts store for about $20 and it will take about 10 seconds to remove those screws

what you do is hit the tool with a hammer and the force from the hammer pushes in a and the tool spins at the same time. its a tool anyone who does brakes should have. those screw are anti-chadder screws

Stop wasting your time with them phillip screws... Take a #3 phillips, place in screw, RAP driver handle a few time to shock the screws. If they still stubborn, I take a die grinder and cut the head right off in the rotor, leaving the small portion of stud.. knock rotor off, and grind stud off, or leave it..

x2 on the impact driver. I got one recently for about $15 at an auto parts store recently when I did the brakes on my Honda. Worked great.

This was a useful thread. Thanks for the post SBR to just cut off the heads of those screws. 2 minutes and they are off.
