I just got myself a 2004 santa fe 3.5L and I have loved it. Drives great and feels great. I got it used at 96k miles. One owner b4 me, good carfax, routine check ups. I just put my first 100 miles on it and the "check engine light" came on. What could be the issue? I read that the owners book said it was a "malfunction of an exhaust gas related component and the system is not functioning properly" what does that vague statement mean pretty much is what im asking????? Any ideas or quick fixes? I was thinking of getting a cheap DLC reader to see whats up with the engine. Maybe the catalytic converter needs to be changes was a thought I had too.

Sounds like the previous owner knew about the CEL, cleared it and palmed it off on you.

Scan the codes and report them back here for the intelligent analysis.

:00000732: from Portland.

I've got a buddy with an OBDII scanner. If you want to meet up with me at some point I can borrow it and we can scan your Santy for free.
