History
My beloved!
I love this car. It was unbelievably reliable. I bought it new in early October of 2001 (easy to remember: I live in NYC, it was about a month after 9/11). I learned so much about how cars work by maintaining it myself whenever minor troubles from wear and tear came up.
But it was more than a car to me. During its 16 years and 117,392 miles it witnessed and was sometimes part of more events in my life than I can possibly remember - some wonderful, others horrific, and everything in between. I lived in it when I was homeless for a while; more than one person nearly died in it (not car-related); it was even shot at a couple times!
It was my beloved companion. At 16 years old, it was still running and in good shape. (Mechanically, at least. It looks a little bit beat up - it gives it character!) But after buying its little brother (same car, 2010 model) I unfortunately did not have the space for two cars.
I sold it. It was a sad day. I honestly feel like I've lost a friend. Despite its lack of modern features, the dings and cabin wear from 16 (often insane) years, AND busted A/C compressor and condenser, the buyer and I were both happy with a $1000 price.
(Whenever I go outside, however, I'm reminded me that it's gone. It still gives me a pang, as if I've lost a dear friend.)
