Engine Shuts off after 30mins

All right, I need help! 2012 Hyundai Accent, automatic, direct injection.

Last week, my car jerk twice from the engine and then my rev counter shut off. Shortly after I returned from a trip to AutoZone because there was no check engine light but I hoped they could find a code anyway, when I parked my engine shut off. After waiting a few moments the car turned on just fine. The rev counter also return to normal.

The car has shut off several times, regardless of gear, but generally after at least 30 minutes of the engine running. No check engine lights have come on.

Currently it is at a shop where they are trying to diagnose it, because there are no check engine lights or codes coming from the car they are having a hard time. They said my relays look good and have no issues there, he does not necessarily think it is a sensor. He is convinced that it is is build up or deposits on the back of my intake valves.

Is anyone having a similar issue, and what did it turn out to be? We are going to try and clean the intake valves this weekend, but I was wondering if I should go ahead and replace a relay or maybe also replace some sensors as a precaution?

When it shuts-down do you still have dash lights/instruments? Rev counter...never heard that one before?

Yes, all lights remain, no check engine light, or codes in the computer.

If I wait a few minutes, it starts back up.

The intake valve cleaning would be a waste of money at this point...

If it was me, Id spend my money on crank sensor replacement. I would think buildup on intake vales would cause poor performance not a shutdown problem.

Rev counter = tachometer ??? I have read other posts where a faulty crankshaft sensor will kill the tachometer output. crank and / or camshaft sensors could be culprits at this point but should be setting the "check engine light".

Can you explain what you mean by "engine shuts off". Does this mean the motor stops running or all the electrics stop working or something else. Does this happen while you are driving? This sounds like it could be pretty dangerous. Be careful and good luck.

The engine turns off, the electrics remain on. If you wait a few moments you can start the car again.

His theory seemed to be that of the engine wasn't performing properly, that the sensor may overheat and shut the engine off. When the sensor cools down, the car then starts up again.

The cleaning seemed simple and rather inexpensive, so we may give it a shot. No check engine lighrs, but may also replace both cam and crank sensors.

Have them check your fuel pump or fuel filter depending on how many miles you have on the car.
Little to no fuel will do the same leaving no cel codes.
Had this happen to me in my hooptie Ford and Z24 race car. Both had bad fuel pumps.
Replaced them and all was fine.

Just a thought. 👍
