Horn Switch (+) or (-)

Hello all,

Is my steering wheel's horn switch, 2008 Sonata, connected to ground or positively? I pretty sure it's (-) but have searched quite a bit and unable to find confirmation. I'm replacing the stock horns with Hella Supertone horns and the Hella instructions cover both; I'd rather not open up the steering wheel to find out. Thanks in advance...

R/John

DVOM the OE horn connector to see which side is live of what polarity...

Horn pad just grounds the relay' coil the close contact and send missing polarity out to honk horn(s)

Dont over think the simple circuit

The horn switch outputs a ground.

But the horns aren't connected to the horn switch. The switch controls a relay and the relay switches on the horns. The relay usually outputs a positive on Hyundai cars. It's dead easy to confirm that. Just look at the colour of the wires on the horn connector. If one of the wires is black (ground on Hyundai) you know they are switched on the positive side of the circuit.

So black wire on the original horn will connect to the negative terminal of your replacement horn and the other wire will connect to the positive. You shouldn't need to fit an additional relay since there is already one in the circuit.

Good afternoon gents,

Correct me if I'm wrong please but while keeping it simple it appears to me that to replace the 2 original horns with the 2 Hella Supertone horns all I need to do is remove the 2 old horns and mount and connect the 2 new horns to the existing wiring while paying attention to the polarities, correct? LMK and thanks again...

Good morning and thanks again for your input. I was just double checking and it appears I understand exactly what is required for the horn effort. The front bumper R&R also seems to be pretty straight forward. I am thinking I'll have to lengthen the wiring to the horn on the left side as I want to mount both Hellas in the middle. Have a great week...
