  2. Brief hesitation in first gear

    MC (2006-2011) Accent
My first guess is one of the coils but I'm no mechanic. I've replaced 3 out of 4 on my 2008. Sometimes they threw a code, other times they didn't. I'm just waiting for number 4 to start failing now. If I was smart I'd buy one and throw it in the glovebox instead of having to pay retail at the...
  3. Pure Gas/Ethanol Free = Better MPG

    MC (2006-2011) Accent
I've been tracking the mileage on every tank of gas since I bought my Accent new in 2008. At over 215,000 miles, over 600 fills for over $17,000 I've got a very good idea about the mileage the car is capable of. I average about 34-38 mpg in the summer, 30-34 mpg in the winter. The car is driven...
  4. Help Needed Won't Turn Over

    SM (2001-2006) Santa Fe
Update, My friend/mechanic went back under to look at the starter connections again. He says the solenoid wire fell apart in his hand. He stripped the wire back and put the connector on it again. He said it looked like it had been very hot. He was able to start the SUV normally three times in a...
  5. Help Needed Won't Turn Over

    SM (2001-2006) Santa Fe
Thanks Scottie, will do this test next. In answer to your previous post, we jumped the starter directly to bypass the entire system. That's the only way we could get it started. Kevin

  7. Help Needed Won't Turn Over

    SM (2001-2006) Santa Fe
Hey all, Looking for a little help here. Our 2005 Santa Fe engine won't turn over using the key. We were able to jump the starter and get it running but the power isn't getting to the starter. Do these things ever have neutral safety switch problems? The dash lights up like normal by the way...
  8. '09 belches smoke and misfires on exit ramp

    MC (2006-2011) Accent
My 08 was doing the exact same thing almost every day on my way home from work on an off ramp. I'm not exactly sure what was happening and most people don't believe what fixed it. I treated the car with Marvel Mystery oil in both the crankcase and gas tank. I only left it in the crankcase for...
  9. died on road, now fixed, wasn't easy

    SM (2001-2006) Santa Fe
I thought I'd relay this story to other Santa Fe owners. It's been throwing 420 and 430 codes for years and the dealer said it needed a new cat. We decided it wasn't worth it and just kept driving it with the check engine light on. We don't have emission tests in our area. I had the timing belt...
  10. Who has the highest mileage?

    MC (2006-2011) Accent
Never saw 3k rpm? I run mine at almost 4k rpm 5 days per week for about 70 miles. 80 mph with a manual is about 3900 rpm. I haven't changed the oil since last fall, just add a little about once a month. Just turned 180k miles this week. I run Mobil synthetic and just recently switched to 10w-30...

  14. I Just Don't Get The MPG in these MC Accents!

    MC (2006-2011) Accent
I've run over 550 full tanks of gas through my 08 Accent and checked the mileage on EVERY tank. I've never noticed a difference in mileage because of the brand of gasoline and I use any and all brands. 99% of gas has been purchased in East Central Illinois. Kuripot (Kevin)
  15. She's a Keeper

    MC (2006-2011) Accent
No suspension parts, I had the dealership check the struts etc. during the alignment. I drive 90% highway @ 70 mph. I also downshift to save brakes. Kuripot (Kevin)
