  1. 2011 Sonata Limited 2.0T Cold Start Misfire

    YF (2011-2014) Sonata/i45
No, when I got the misfire code for #1 and #2 cylinders, I put new plugs and coils on those cylinders. I was going to use a top engine cleaner so I took the two new plugs and coils out and put the old ones back in because of how the top engine cleaner would dirty the plugs. After that I was...

Ok, I put the old plugs and coils for #1 and #2 cylinders back in thinking I was going to use a Top Engine Cleaner for the valves. The first problem I wanted to fix was the clock spring, so I did that and then hooked up the scanner to clear that code. While I was in there I scanned the engine...

Ok will do. One of the guys I work with asked if I have ever used a top engine cleaner because of the GDI problems with build up on the valves. I said no and I thought he was going to hit me! "Ever 30,000 miles!" he said! I have 145K. So tomorrow I'll pull the two new plugs I installed for test...

No coolant leaks, no leaks of any kind (liquid that is). Is there a preferred point to check the vacuum? Just as a side note, I work swing shift so after this reply I wont be back on here until tomorrow. Thanks for your advise! BTW, all spark plugs look great, clean and sharp. I did replace the...

Yes I agree, it was a mistake that I wrote (leaking) and made it sound as though I was associating the misfire with the corona, sorry.šŸ˜Œ

Yes, but again, once the engine starts, if I keep it at 2,000rpm to warm it up for a minute or so, it will not set a code.

If I warm the engine up at 2,000rpm for a minute or so, the engine will not set a code. There are no drive-ability problems even with the misfire code set. Car runs great, turbo is solid. Car has 145,000 on it. I replaced the number #1 and #2 spark plug and coil because these were the two that...
  8. GDI Carbon Buildup

    Sonata YF Turbo
Your father-in-law is right, unless you are having problems with performance or drivability, not to worry. Second, Techron isn't going to do anything on the valves due to the fact that it is direct injection and doesn't flow the air/fuel mixture over the valves like conventional intake systems...

I'd like to ask a couple of questions because your statement was a little confusing to me. I'm assuming the engineer you spoke with was one that dealt with engines and not from a different department because engineers may be sharp in the field they specialize in and not so sharp in other areas...
  10. Oil Analysis Reports

    Sonata YF Turbo
Just curious, but, what do you mean it didnt come back good. What part wasnt good?
  11. Motor oil I can't get the straight dope

    Sonata YF Turbo
Different oils and filter combinations will allow various engines to run longer or shorter than factory recommendations between oil changes. This is why oil analysis (if you are interested to know whats really going on in your engine) is specialized to your specific engine, just like a blood...

I have been off the site due to a death in the family that has been real hard on us. I will try and post the UOA as soon as possible. My 7.3 holds 16 quarts with by-pass. Im not trying to compair the engines at all. Thank you Bearcats, thats exactly what I was trying to say.
  13. Early Oil Changes

    Sonata YF Turbo
As soon as I get the second UOA I plan on posting both of them if its worth doing so. If they are both exactly the same, there is really no need. Doctored? Im not doctoring anything, why would you say that? Your choice of words is poor unless you are accusing me of trying to be...
  14. Early Oil Changes

    Sonata YF Turbo
No, Im not messing with you, you were right on target! As far as the "Catch Can", "Puke Tank", "Oil Overflow", whatever you wanna call it, its usually only needed in heavy tuned and or racing applications. It's not something we would need for our cars.
  15. Early Oil Changes

    Sonata YF Turbo
You'd have to establish the fact that you need one though (Catch Can that is) But if one did need it, they are very effective!
