2011-2013 TPMS Module Works in 2014+ Elantra

My friends 2014 Elantra has a bad TPMS Module (located above the glove box) and he bought a used 2014 unit and put it in. I used the Hyundai GDS to write the VIN number onto the other unit but TPMS light kept coming on and having random issues. We believe the unit he bought was also bad.

If you look online, all of the 2014+ TPMS modules are pretty expensive new and no guarantees a used one would work or work for long. The TPMS module for 2014+ elantra is 958003X500 vs 2011-2013 TPMS module is 95800-3X000.

So what I did was that I took a used 2013 TPMS module and just programmed the vin onto the module, and then it just worked. If you try to write the vehicle name onto this module, it will cause an error. 2011-2013 vehicle name is MD while 2014+ is MD FL (facelift) for the TPMS module. Despite this error, the module works in the 2014.

I am unsure if you would need to set the vehicle name in another car first (if you are dealing with a brand new 95800-3X000), then put it into a 2014, but overall a TPMS module (part number 95800-3X000) will work on a 2014 elantra.

There are a few listings on ebay for 95800-3X000 brand new for $30. I bought one myself for my 2012 and it was indeed new (no vin number, and was set to dormant mode).

Hopefully this can save some people a little money with their TPMS module, but note that you will need a Hyundai GDS device to program the new TPMS module. The dealer will never help you with this since they wont put used parts on a car nor will they try to program in a part that doesn't belong on the car.
