Any word on 2019 model availability and specs?

I read one article that said that 2019 production was going to start in August but have not seen that verified anywhere. I also saw the article about the all-new 2020.

Totally, my opinion, but my thoughts are this.

The 2018 + models will morph into 2019 standard models. For example, the 2018 SEL+ will just be a 2019 SEL but have all of the additional features of the 2018 SEL+. The non + models will carry over as is or with some minor additional equipment.

Then an all-new 2020 model.

As far as pricing. This is my best guess.

There are two components to this: dealer discount and Hyundai rebate. Right now, I have checked a website that I use for pricing and it appears that a 2018 SEL+ costs about $1000 more than a 2018 SEL (even though the MSRP is the same…go figure). The price difference is the rebate is $500 less and it appears that the dealer discount must be about $500 less (as the SEL+ is still relatively new and dealers feel they can get a small premium on them).

They are not making the SEL any longer and the SEL+ has been out about a month (not seeing many in dealer stocks). On top of that, the 2019 should be coming out in the next couple of months. Maybe they will just skip 2019, who knows.

I think over the next few months there will be a point when they are only getting SEL+ models in and the SEL inventory will start to be a drag. Depending on sales, it could go either way. If there are still a lot of SEL’s left, hopefully, they will increase the rebate and the dealer discount to get rid of them. If sales clear out the older SEL models, then the SEL+ will become the standard SEL sitting on the lot and should transition into the current SEL pricing structure for dealer discount and rebate as there will no longer be an older model SEL competing with it.

On top of that, what about a new 2019 model? Obviously, a new 2019 would not have a big rebate or dealer discount if any. Depending on how many SEL and SEL+ models are still on the lots when the 2019 model comes out, pricing could get crazy. Lots to think about.

What are you guys thoughts and opinions?

I dont think there will be any additional changes to the 2019 other than as you speculated above the + models will probably just become the standard 2019 models, the big change is 2020.

Eventually the left over 2018 non + will either sell out or be cleared out with big rebates.

I heard Hyundai is doing away with the 2.0T engines in the Sport models for 2019. From what I read, the 2.0 engine will only be available on the top trim Limited model. If I can find the source of where I read this I will post it on here.

No matter what engines these cars and trucks have in the future I certainly PRAY that Hyundai never EVER scraps the automatic transmissions for CVTs. Can we all agree?

I'm with you there. I owned a Prius for a short time and they have CVT, hated it, feels like a golf cart to drive.

I know its all guessing until production but no 2.0T means for me looking at something else. That was the selling point for me on the Sonata, it was a nice car, fairly quiet and ok handling for a sedan and the 2.4 is certainly enough for daily use and pretty good MPG on a car this size. But the 2.0 gave the car the little more kick and was the decision maker for me.

I would have got the Elantra Sport with 1.6T and DCT or manual if the Sonata did not hav the 2.0T at the time. And in retrospect for me I wish Id gone with the Elantra Sport 1.6T since 90% of my driving is commute with me alone and I dont need the room. Also the Elantra is a little more "sporty" in its handling and power with a ton more modifications avail.

I believe my next car in 1.5-2 yr will be a low mileage G70 with 3.3, from all Im reading about them they are a great sport sedan dollar for dollar and can compete performance wise with the BMW 3/4 series and Audi. I expect a 1yr old G70 will be in the price range of a loaded new Sonata by the end of 2019

As I suspected, looks like 2019's are same as 2018 + models. Several dealer sites have 2019's on them but still nothing on the Hyundai website. It appears that they raised the MSRP by $250 dollars. MSRP of 2019 SEL is $23,950 now. Freight is the same $885. Of course, no rebate currently. Looking at the window sticker all of the + model goodies are now standard on the SEL model. So price wise it looks like if you can get the same dealer discount, that a 2018 + model would be the cheapest since you should save the $250 base price increase and get all of the same options. Feeling frustrated here. Was hoping with the model change that Hyundai would try to move the 2018's. This month same basic rebate that they have had all year. Maybe next month they will raise the rebate on the 2018's. Of course then the dilemma of save money on base 2018 SEL or spend a little more and get the 2018 + model or 2019.

I thought the pano roof went away for 2018 in the US.
