Intermittent loss of power

Hi, I have the 136ps 2011 i40 estate. I had an intermittent issue with power loss (limp mode) and an engine management light. I used a diagnostic which showed an issue with the EGR valve. I removed and cleaned the carbon from EGR valve, which wasn't particularly dirty and replaced. The issue went away then returned a few days later. It has been intermittent since, to the point of driving for a couple of weeks, then it returns for a couple of days. It has now returned with the engine management light again. Is this more likely to be a sensor issue (i.e wiring harness change) or a faulty EGR valve? The reason i'm thinking it may be electrical is due to the intermittent nature and the EGR valve looking in ok condition when removed. Thanks in advance.

Hello Fletcher, welcome to the forum

It would be helpful if you could tell us what trouble code is actually being logged?
How many wires are on the EGR valve connector, 2 or 5?
CRDi engine I assume.

Thanks for the quick reply. It is the CRDi and there are 5 pins/wires to the connector. I got a fault code of P0404 (EGR system - range/performance problem) which cleared for about a week after cleaning. I haven't had a diagnostic on it since the engine light came on again due to it being the exact same symptoms. As you probably know, finding parts for these cars anywhere other than a dealer is a nightmare, but, I've found a few valves from breakers for 100-165 that I can fit myself. I just don't want to spend the money then have to buy a wiring harness if the issue is still there.
