Question Question/Opinion

So what are your thoughts on the Hyundai/Kia engine troubles, are they over, or will we see the issues down the road for the 2018/19 models as well ?

Thanks !

The casting problems may be over for now. There will always be issues of some sort.

Do you feel lucky?

Only time will tell, but should be covered by a warranty and/or a recall if so.

If we are lucky to get a new Tucson

If we are lucky to get a new Tucson, I will change the oil, and or filter like crazy for the first 5-10k miles. It might just get whatever shavings there might be out. An oil analysis from Blackstone labs would be a good idea too. I always do a 500-700 mile first change on any new car anyway. Then on the Tucson I might do a filter change at 1,500 miles or so then a 3,000 mile oil & filter change, then every 3,000 for awhile depending on lab results. Overkill, yeah maybe, but oil is cheap insurance for the possible headache down the road.

Wow! you seem to be oil obsessed in the US. Oil testing by owners is virtually unknown over here.

Here in the UK I have had new cars every 2-3 years with the last six being three petrol and three diesel Hyundai. Currently driving a Tucson 1.7 diesel with scheduled oil change every 20,000 miles but I change at 12 months/10,000 from habit. Earlier cars, of various makes and all diesel, were 12,000 mile oil/filter changes. Never had a warranty claim on any car I have owned in the last twenty years and only very minor problems back to 1970.

Must be doing everything right!

I believe he's the ONLY owner here in the US that would do this. Most of us have s little bit of common sense.
