2.4 Engine Problems
Please forgive me if I am beating a dead horse. I scoured the google searches for several hours and decided to simply ask.
I have a 2012 Sonata SE with the standard 2.4l engine.
About a year ago I noticed that it started eating oil and I have no clue where it would go. I would go through 3 quarts in 2k miles. I stressed over taking it back to the dealer. It seems that as soon as it was paid off they didnt seem to treat me with the same southern hospitality that I was used to.
About 6 days ago I was driving home, thankfully close to the dealership, and it simply died. For the past month or so I noticed that the engine was severely underpowered with clacking and rattling. My thought was that it was the crappy gas we sometimes get from the gas stations. I dont buy cheap gas from lower quality producers but I have a feeling that it doesnt matter because the gas probably all comes from the same place. Sometimes its like JET FUEL and sometimes its like someone poured sugar in it.
The dealer told me that it fell under the ClassAction lawsuit but needed to drop the oil pan to the tune of $250. I approved it, they took their pictures, sent them to Hyndai, and it was approved for warranty replacement. I have a rental car at their expense.
They quoted me 90 to 120 days. I made sure they would not charge me any hidden fees or charges for storage, A/C discharge/recharge, fluid replacement, etc... and they emphatically said NO CHARGE.
My question: What specifically is wrong with the engine? Is it a part, wear/tear, poor design, etc...?
Thanks for your patience and time to read and respond!
