My paddle switches took a dump a few days ago and I didn't want to pay 100$+ for a few simple switches so I opened it up to take a look. So here are pictures on how to repair them for under 5$ Or you can send them to me and I can fix them for you for a fee.

pic of the paddle switch from sonata.

When it is opened up.

What it looks like after removing the paddle itself

Notice the bent copper tab and how it's breaking off. This is the part which completes the connection when you press the paddle. It's extremely thin, like a piece of paper and the more you use your paddles the faster it will degrade, like bending a piece of metal several times until it breaks off.

This is the part of the switch that fails. When the tab breaks off it causes the switch to make a constant connection. The computer in your car will shut down your function to shift in both the paddles and the center shifter if the switch doesn't disconnect saving wear and tear on your tranny.

At the time I was opening the switch by coincidence my wife came in the shop and place a brass picture hanger on the bench asking if I had any laying around in the shop. At that moment I realized the wall hanger is about the same width as the tab in the switch and also thicker, so I went ahead and altered the wall hanger to function as the tab in the paddle switch.

I drilled a hold in the switch where the tab was riveted from the factory.

I bent the wall hanger which took a considerable amount of time getting it to function correctly when bolted to the switch...Then I took some super tiny screws and nuts and bolted it to the switch. I tested the switch with my multimeter several times to make absolutely sure it was working correctly.

After that, I installed the paddle and plastic back plate. Retested the paddle switch one more time with a multimeter then installed those back onto the steering wheel...

And Wham works like a charge and functions as intended. Everything I used i already had so I paid nothing, but this should cost much for the mini screws, nuts, and brass wall hanger.

NOTE: due to the thickness of the wall hanger the feeling of the paddles when you press them is different from stock. It will have more firmer feel than a new or used paddle switch
