HELP! Rough idle, can't use 6th gear, traction control warning, and RPM gauge BAD

Hi everyone,

I was driving along the interstate today when suddenly these things happened out of nowhere:

My A/C stopped working (no cold air)

My RPM meter stopped working (stuck at 0)

My orange traction control light came on (similar to before the recall replacement)

My does not want to engage 6th gear automatically - I have to manually shift it into 6th if going at high speed.

Car cannot inform me regarding MPG - when reset it just sits at - - - and does not change.

THEN, I pulled over, shut off the car and tried to restart it - it had a very hard time restarting (took about 5-6 attempts) and then it was very rough at idle. The roughness goes away after I get going at high speed.

What do you think could be the issue? I need to drive home for spring break in a week so perhaps I have to take it into the dealer - but if anyone has a good idea about what could be going on, I would appreciate any help. This is my first problem with my Sonata at 78k miles!

Plug in GDS, do complete fault code search of all on-board modules to see what going on..

<--- Please fill in the 'location' and 'what you drive(year & chassis) and engine size' boxes on your personal profile page.

Well yes, fault in 1 will shut off most all COMM in most all instance, scan all module to find who seen what that ties it all together

Thank you so much everyone - here are some answers and more questions...

1) There is no check engine light

2) When I restarted the car an hour afterwards, it turned on again with everyone working normally. I believe I saw one of the LED fog lamps that I installed being funky yesterday and after I restarted the car - I will look into removing these to try to figure out what is the problem.

3) Will the dealer run the GDS for free or will that cost a diagnostic fee? Thank you!

it may be the fogs messing the canbus who knows. you should have those powered up but the battery with a relay harness
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Xenon-HID-Co...hXIdGl&vxp=mtr

I did that for my headlights HID's and have not have ad an issue yet

Thanks. Dumb question - if I am already using a relay for my hide, can I use another one for the fogs? What does a relay do that prevents these issues?

Relays are a way of pulling power directly from the battery versus going through the OEM/ECU wiring. This is desirable as it reduces current pull when the ballast strikes stressing the system which wasn't designed to provide power that way. Typically you put a relay harness on per "set" of lamps but it will ultimately depend on how the harness was made. And yes you can have as many relay harness sets as you need. I wouldn't put an HID system on any car without a relay harness if it wasn't supporting HID in the first place (from factory).

Find a reputable place to purchase a harness from and wire it up. Cheap isn't the way to go here but don't blow money needlessly.

Also a quick way to test if your new fogs are the problem; unplug them and see how the car runs.

And I also just noted you said you put LED fogs in (not HID). Is this a bulb direct (only swapped a bulb) or did you splice/wire anything up?
