KN Air Filter - Significant Loss of MPG - 2013 YF

Sorry if this has been a topic previously, but I installed a KN Air Filter (not intake) on my 2013 Sonata SE about a month or so ago. Since that time I've noticed a significant drop in mpg going from about avg of 26-27 mpg down to 22 mpg at its worst. I contacted KN and this is how they responded:

Hello,
Thank you for contacting K&N. We don't test for gas mileage so we cannot make any claims or suggestions on that. If you are not satisfied with the product you are always more than happy to return the filter.

I'd hate to return the filter but a 5 mpg drop seems a bit excessive. I have not reset my ECU yet, but i've read on different forums that it shouldn't be necessary since this is a drop in filter. Thoughts?

Drop in a factory one and see if mpg goes back up

Yeah I was thinking about doing that today, I still have the previous factory one, I just always heard good things about KN Filters so figured I'd give it a shot. From all the forums I read I saw that mpg could go +- a few mpg but didn't expect such a large loss.

I've ran K&N's in many vehicles and never had a mileage loss.

Try this first, disconnect the battery for 10 minutes to try to reset the computer (God I sound like an IT Call Center person). It could not hurt.

I'd just return that thing! I mean after all you are going end up more than happy-- perhaps even elated. Heck, I don't really care much for drop-in K&N filters-- but I'm considering buying one just to return it and see what a thrill I get . . .

Perhaps the "dipship" (sp) who wrote that will come over and give you BJ . . .

It's not the filter. Changing from highway to stop n go is the cause.

My wife's 2011 Sonata GLS gets 35mpg on pure hwy. Stop n go, lucky to get 22mpg.

Gotta retrain your foot for stop n go traffic. Keep the rpms down, slower acceleration. No sense to jackrabbit-start just to slow down or stop in 100 feet.
