Input needed on basic speaker upgrade

Hey everyone,

I just bought a 2012 2.0t SE about a month ago and am looking to upgrade the stereo system a little bit.

I'm just looking to do some basic upgrades, nothing too complicated or expensive. I've been doing a ton of research and haven't really found anyone in the same situation I have. I have the 6 speaker base stereo with XM and bluetooth. Not sure if it is Infinity/Dimension/neither, not sure how to tell.

I am definitely going to swap out the dash speakers to probably the Polk DB351 with the bass blockers. Any other suggestions for this?
What I've thought of is a couple situations with the dash speaker swap and would like all of your input on what's better:

1. Install coaxial speakers in the front (eventually the rear). Most likely Infinity 629I. I don't plan on amping in this situation. Will this add too much high end? This would be the easiest for me to install as well.

2. Install a Alpine Power Pack amp and don't swap the door speakers.

I'm mainly not liking the lack of power and high end harshness of the stock system. Not planning on adding a sub.

Thanks for the help

I have a 14 sonata Gls i have the base stereo with dash speakers also, i changed all my speakers to infinity night and day over factory i put 6 1/2" component speakers in the front doors and 6 1/2" coax in the back doors, 3 1/2" up front in the dash you have to do a little work to the speakers in the dash to make them fit, i can down load pictures later i chose infinity because they are very efficient speakers alot of sound with low power

And I've done something similar.

I installed an Alpine Power Pack under the factory radio, a pair of Kenwood XR-1800p component 7-inch speakers and a pair of Polk audio speakers in the dash.

The Alpine Power Pack powers the dash speakers and the door speakers.
Ah I didn't really wanna deal with the tweeters of component set ups. But I might consider.

Do you notice a difference in sound coming from the dash with the Polks in there? Did you use the bass blockers?

The dash speakers can handle the highs and the midrange pretty well. So components are not necessary.

I do use a homemade 18db per octave crossover set at 400Hz. Serious overkill. A 99 or 100 uf capacitor would do the job.

Also, the Power Pack has an adjustable High pass filter.

A majority of the sound seems to come from the dash, the 3-1/2-inch speakers really do an extremely good job. So don't cross them over too high. You want at least 200Hz to 400Hz and up from the dash speakers

I've read the stock door speakers are mostly mid to low end (not sure if they're lowpassed anywhere), will just throwing some coaxials in there make the overall highs too harsh when combined with the dash speakers? Since coaxials are full range. This would be easiest.

I would just throw some mid range woofers in there combined with the 3.5 Polks in the dash but no one seems to sell woofers without the whole component set (not sure if I'm looking hard enough though).

just remember the 3 1/2 dash speakers are going to have to be modified and the dash will need to be trimmed also so the speakers sit flat, it's not a difficult mod but it takes a little time do a search and check out RANGERSVO 3 1/2 dash speaker install he shows you in detail what to do to the speakers and dash I did mine in about 2 hours and I soldered my wires and bass blockers to the speakers I recommend that you have a dremel tool it will help, if you have any questions give me a shout I'll be glad to help

The Kenwood 7-inch speaker fits perfectly. No adapters or mods required. One bit of advice, more power. These speaker sound good with 45 watts RMS, but they would sound much better at 100 -150 watts RMS.

The speakers I use is the Kenwood XR1800p

I might want to try a set of Kenwood Excelon KFC-X183C 7-inch in the back doors some day
